I have two dogs, one is a golden retriever and the other is a German shepard. They have quite a few years between them, so their energy levels are pretty different, but they do agree on a couple of things: the mailman must be barked at, and snow is one of the greatest things ever!

So far this winter, we haven't had too much snow. In fact, just last week I spoke with Pete Boulay from the Minnesota State Climatology Office who told me that according to their records, Faribault had only about 4 inches of snow on the ground. Well, as the saying goes, if you don't like the weather in Minnesota, wait a week and it will change. Sure enough, a week later, and I woke up to white flurries floating past my window. Yesterday when I read the forecast, there was no mention of snow overnight, so I was quite surprised to see it. Reports of total snowfall range from 2-4 inches, although I have not heard an official report.

For my dogs, fresh snow was the best thing possible to wake up to! They had a blast running around the yard chasing each other, kicking up snow, catching softly packed snowballs, rolling around in the white fluffy stuff, and even just lying there in the cold, clean snow. It's so fun to watch them play and see how excited they are to play outside.

I'm not winter's biggest fan. I love a white Christmas, but I can't stand being cold. Mostly, I still want to experience all four seasons, I just wish this one was a bit shorter. I wish I were able to find a way to enjoy winter as much as my dogs do! I do have to admit that after seeing so much brown grass and dirty snow on the curbs, a fresh white coat of snow did make everything a bit prettier this morning. And watching my two dogs' excitement brings a smile to my face every time!
