Faribault Bethlehem Academy Cardinal head coach Tom Langfeldt was beaming Friday night after a loss.

I finished broadcasting the Cardinal baseball game with Kenyon-Wanamingo on Power 96 Radio and walked over to the softball field to find out how the Cardinal fastpitch team did.

Langfeldt's first words were, "Shelby threw a one-hitter." I had been told previously the Cardinals had lost to Maple River 1-0 by a fan.

Perspective is amazing isn't it? Both messages were accurate. Cardinals did lose and Meyer did throw a one-hitter.

That's what I love about Langfeldt, his focus on the positive! He wasn't sulking about not being able to manage a run against a very good softball team. Or collecting just two hits in the game. The Cardinals dropped their second game of the week and could have won both.

What has to have Langfeldt beaming is the fact this is a young team.

The Faribault Falcon softball team defeated Red Wing 11-0 on the road Friday night.

It was a five-inning game and McKayla Armbruster tossed a two-hitter. The freshman fanned seven and did not walk a soul.

Faribault had 13 hits and scored in four of the five innings. In addition, Armbruster had three hits and an RBI. Bre Bresnahan added two hits and an RBI.

The Falcons play the tradition-rich Mankato schools next week and are 2-1 in the Big Nine and overall on the season.
