Goodhue used a strong defensive effort to beat Lyle/Pacelli on Monday night at the Mayo Civic Auditorium 50-37 and advance to Saturday's subsection final.

The Wildcats held the Athletics to four second-half field goals and forced about 15 turnovers on the night. Top seed Goodhue advances to the West Subsection final Saturday at 11AM versus second seed Grand Meadow, who edged Southland 64-60.

Both teams had a tough time finding their shot early. Goodhue was just 1-for-6 initially but spent the rest of the half shooting 9-for-16 and built their lead up to 10 points a couple of times. The 'Cats lead at the break 27-22. Goodhue drained 14-of-19 free throws after halftime to pull away. Lyle / Pacelli hit 7-of-11.

Goodhue (20-9) was led by Jacob McNamara with 10 points and about 10 rebounds. Ben Opsahl scored 10 and grabbed about five rebounds. Jacob Pasch and Sam McNamara each scored eight. The Wildcats hit five three-pointers to the Athletics' one.

Goodhue gave up 15 points to Braden Kocer and limited Noah Jiskra to just two points after halftime. He scored 14 in the game. The Wildcats connected on five three-pointers, compared to one for Lyle / Pacelli.
