The Rochester Lourdes/Dover-Eyota Eagles skated past Faribault 7-1 to capture the Section 1 Class A championship and a berth into the State Girls Hockey Tournament.  The Eagles set the tone early.  They scored 25 seconds into the game and never looked back.  It was a game featuring the top two seeds in the section.

Rochester Lourdes/Dover-Eyota scored two power play goals following the quick opener and led 3-0 after the first period.  The Eagles tallied another power play goal 3:10 into the second period.  It was sophomore Abby Wick's second goal of the game and third goal of the season.  Her first goal was assisted by Anna Schmitz (30).  The Eagles leading scorer Clara Billings hammered the next goal home at 10:39.  Assists went to Maggie Hanzel (24) and Schmitz (31).  Alison Smith recorded her fourth goal of the year assisted by Wick (15) at 14:20.

Wick opened the scoring in the second period 3:10 into the period on a power play goal that was unassisted.  8th grade forward Delaney Fleming achieved her second goal of the season at 6:21 assisted by Lizzie Pike (1).  Eleven seconds later Wick got her hat trick on a goal assisted by Schmitz. The final goal of the second period was scored by Smith with the assist to Billings (14) at 15:42.

The only goal scored in the third period was scored by Faribault senior Kayli Burkhartzmeyer at 14:55.  Her 20th of the year assisted by classmate Ellie Knutson (10).  It was on a power play during running time.

Shots on goal were 28 for Rochester Lourdes/Dover-Eyota and 13 for Faribault.  The Eagles allowed 12 shots on goal in the semi-final game against Albert Lea last Saturday.

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the game were the five seniors playing their last game.  Ellie Knutson, Kayli Burkhartzmeyer, Olivia Morelan, Alexis Velander and Tori Pavel.  They provided exceptional leadership over the course of a very successful season.  The Falcons finished the year with a record of 19-7.

The State Tournament bound Eagles are 15-9-1.  They will seed the tournament this weekend.  Class A begins Wednesday at the Excel Energy Center in St. Paul.
