Sunday afternoon I started out for Michigan. It was kind of a harvest report tour, too. Between Faribault and La Crosse I did not see one bean field yet to be harvested. I did see a number of bean fields with wet spots that farmers could not get combines into. I did however, see a lot of corn fields waiting to be harvested. Between La Crosse and Madison, Wis., it was dark so I could not see the fields.

As I drove from Madison to Illinois there was a lot of corn yet to be harvested. No beans, but I would guess about half the corn was waiting to be harvested. It was a similar scene as I drove across Illinois and Indiana. There was a lot of corn and even beans in the fields yet in Michigan. It also looked pretty wet in Indiana and Michigan, where you could see water standing in the fields. That would explain why they seem to be behind getting the crops harvested.

I will admit I did not see the heart of the corn belt because I drove through Chicago and also northern Indiana. Granted, I did not go out into the fields but just from the interstate the corn and beans did look very good. It sure looked like a lot of other farmers were struggling with too much rain this fall like we are in Minnesota.
