Dan Harmon’s ‘Rick & Morty’ Renewed for Season 2 on Adult Swim
We’ll admit to not having checked in very much with ‘Community‘ creator Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland’s trippy Adult Swim sci-fi comedy ‘Rick and Morty,’ though we’ve noticed its rave reviews and surprisingly competitive ratings. That said, fans are in for some seriously good news: Adult Swim has officially picked up ‘Rick and Morty’ for season 2!
“I am excited to make as much Rick and Morty as Adult Swim allows, and I’m relieved to be in a time slot of no strategic value to CBS,” said co-creator and executive producer Dan Harmon in a statement announcing the news. Added co-creator and executive producer Justin Roiland, “I am humbled and super excited by the positive response to the show, and we have no shortage of ideas for future episodes,”
After missing for nearly 20 years, Rick Sanchez (Justin Roiland) suddenly arrives at his daughter Beth’s (Sarah Chalke) doorstep looking to move in with her and her family. Beth welcomes him with open arms, but her unremarkable husband Jerry (Chris Parnell) isn’t too thrilled about the tearful reunion as Rick’s arrival serves to shake things up quite a bit around the household.
Rick converts the garage into his personal laboratory and gets to work on all sorts of dangerous sci-fi gadgets and contraptions. That wouldn’t be so bad if not for the fact that Rick continues to involve his grandchildren Morty (Roiland) and Summer (Spencer Grammer) in his insane adventures.
In only its first six episodes, ‘Rick and Morty’ managed to increase its key demographic of adults 18-34, growing both double and triple-digits. The first season along features the vocal talents of Tom Kenny, ‘Futurama”s Maurice LaMarche, ‘The Daily Show”s breakout star John Oliver, ‘Arrested Development”s David Cross, ‘Degrassi’ star Cassie Steele, along with Claudia Black, Virginia Hey, Rob Paulsen, Jess Harnell, Phil Hendrie, Dana Carvey, and Aislinn Paul.
