Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn issued a news release today noting a revision of the restricted outdoor burning in the county.  The news release reads:"With the precipitation and milder winds forecasted for Tuesday, the burning restrictions will be lifted effective Wednesday, May 2nd at 8:00 am.  We still ask that if you are burning, you obtain your burning permits and activate them at the time of the burning.  Please be very careful that you have a safe area to burn and that you are always monitoring the winds.  The Sheriff’s Office, the DNR and your local fire departments appreciates your cooperation."

I visited with the Sheriff on the KDHL News Line during our Midday Report Monday and he also noted his office received numerous complaints over the weekend of people going through mailboxes.  Authorities took reports from residents in rural Webster, Shieldsville, Lonsdale and the Montgomery Area.

Sheriff Dunn wanted to remind residents not to put bills that contain checks into your mailbox.  He said in the past they've had thieves steal the checks from the mail and then alter them and later forge them.

Sheriff Dunn encourages everyone to avoid theft by, "putting bills in a drop box type mailbox at your local post office or other location."
