The Faribault American Legion is the place to be on Friday, June 12, for a Rice County Historical Society fundraiser.

The Buddy Koopmans Orchestra will be playing those big band sounds highlighting a fun evening, with dinner and a silent auction also happening. Social hour begins at 5PM, dinner will be served at 6 and the band gets cranked up at 7.

The Buddy Koopmans Orchestra is locally based and its history extends to the year KDHL Radio went on the airwaves, 1948. That's when Roger Koopmans of Faribault organized the band while he was in high school. The original group included up to 16 instrumentalists from throughout the region and played four to five gigs a year. Recently Gary Anderson, a clarinetist who started playing with the orchestra at age 13, bought the band from Koopmans.

All proceeds from the event support the Rice County Historical Society's ongoing programs and activities to help preserve the history of Rice County.

Dinner/event tickets are $25 each. They are available at the museum or from any RCHS board member. The RCHS phone number is (507) 332-2121 if you need more information.

Tune in at 9:30AM and be informed about what's happening in your community.
