The 4-H Livestock Show Arena was a busy place Saturday morning on the Rice County Fairgrounds. The morning began with a complimentary buyers breakfast in the 4-H building at 8:30 and the annual 4-H Livestock Auction began at 9:15. It was great to see so many business and individuals there to support the Rice County 4-H. This is the major and only fundraiser for the Rice County 4-H Foundation during the entire year.

A certain premium for each animal is set by the 4-H Foundation and goes to the 4-H member that owns the animal. The rest goes to the Rice County Foundation that benefits all 4-H members in Rice County. The money goes for state fair trips, leadership camps and other needs as the foundation determines. The 4-H foundation is made of parents, extension committee members and staff from the University of Minnesota Extension Service. Saturday afternoon I stopped by the Extension Office, but the total dollar amount raised at the annual Rice County 4-H Auction was not tabulated yet. We will be out at the fairgrounds to move everything from our booth back to the studio, so I will check again on Monday.
