MnDOT is advising motorists to expect detours and delays.

The Twins and Vikings both have home games, and the Twin Cities Marathon is this weekend, so a ton of people will be flocking to the cities. Those people and anyone else traveling to the cities via I-35 should find an alternate route or allow extra travel time.

A MnDot press release warns: "Interstate 35W will close in both directions between I-94 and Highway 62 in Minneapolis, beginning at 10 p.m., Friday, Sept. 29, as crews prepare for the demolition of the Franklin Avenue bridge. Crews will begin closing the on and off ramps for I-35W approximately one hour prior to closing the interstate. I-35W will reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2."
