It was a rainy day Saturday, but that didn't dampen people's spirits during Kenyon's Rose Fest.

Off and on rain ended the car show early but considering the weather the turnout was very good, with 26 vehicles and some tractors parked along the street.

The Farmers Market and vendor sales at the Fire Hall were a huge hit with many people dodging out of the rain to see what was offered.

The wild and crazy guys from Milo Peterson Ford let me walk with them throughout the parade and man did we have fun. I always enjoy smiles from the kids but handing candy to many adults along the route got more smiles and thank yous than I anticipated. The only drawback from being in the parade is you don't get to see all of the units.

Many people told me how much they enjoyed the parade and, by the way, it didn't rain a drop on the parade Saturday.

Some politicians were behind us and the Kenyon-Wanamingo marching band was ahead of us by a few units. The state champion Kenyon-Wanamingo wrestlers received a lot of applause as they went through the parade.

I stopped by Veterans Park and enjoyed the improvements the Kenyon Veterans have made to the area. The Field of Flags was awesome and I purchased a flag in honor of my dad, who served in the U.S. Army during World War II. My purchase was No. 157 and the money raised goes back into the memorial. There are more improvements being planned for the park.

I enjoyed delicious prime rib for supper at Schweichs and the Kenyon Class of 1986 was having their reunion.

Even though I started at KDHL in June 1987, I was familiar with a few of the guys and it was fun catching up with them.
