Purchase Some Broadcast History May 15-16

The Pavek Museum of Broadcasting in St. Louis Park, Minn., has been educating people, especially kids, about the world of radio and broadcasting since 1988. There is much equipment from the early days, and publicity photos of Twin Cities celebrities to look at.

Radio brought the world together as radio stations came online like KDHL did in 1948, broadcasting national radio shows such as Red Skelton, Bob Hope, and George and Gracie; drama shows such as the Green Hornet, The Shadow and radio soap operas; and, of course, the good and bad news of the day, including updates on World War II and subsequent wars. It was all there coming out of a box with glass tubes and a speaker.

The Pavek has received so many donations of things over the years that they need to get rid of some items. So they are having a garage sale this weekend. Hours are Friday and Saturday, 10AM to 5PM at 3517 Raleigh Ave. S., St. Louis Park. Items for sale include radios (many inoperative), mixing boards, projectors, tubes and parts, magazines, posters and memorabilia. Get more information at www.museumofbroadcasting.org.
