Some people are incredibly skilled at carving pumpkins. They create intricate designs like haunted houses, cats, characters, and more. I've seen examples where people have not carved all the way through, but instead carved into the pumpkins layers to expose different colors and add dimension, and I've seen drills used to make designs.

I am not one of those people. I own no fancy pumpkin carving tools, I do not look up designs, print out ideas, or sketch my plan onto the pumpkin before I start. I admire the people that turn their pumpkins into creative masterpieces, but if you ever come to my house around Halloween, you won't be seeing anything that elaborate. I keep it simple. Once I've cleaned it out, I usually aim to make a pretty basic jack-o-lantern face. It's simple, takes less time, requires less skill, and I like to think, is a timeless style.

Although, maybe I should use just a touch more skill and time, because when all was said and done, I realized that this year's pumpkin had uneven eyes. Oops! haha
