While many say the Minnesota State Fair began this morning, I argue it started last evening at 8:30 with the Princess Kay of the Milky Way Coronation. Twelve finalists from around the state were competing for the honor of representing the dairy industry in Minnesota. Some other states have a similar program but none of them are as big as Minnesota's Princess Kay of the Milky Program. Having the program late evening adds a special effect with all the lights on the Minnesota State Fair Band Shell.

I always "root" for the finalists from our area. Likely I have gotten to know them and their families. It did not help this year because the 62nd Princess Kay of the Milky Way was Kyla Mauk from Wright County.
