Owatonna's boys' hockey team had four power plays in the third period Thursday night against Big Nine-leading Rochester Century. While the Huskies generated a number of good chances and had an apparent goal waived off due to a dislodged net, they were not able to convert and lost to the Panthers 1-0.

Century out shot the Huskies 40-19. Zach Wiese kept OHS in the game with a number of remarkable stops. The Panthers slipped one by him late in the second period after a flurry behind and in front of the Owatonna net. Century's leading scorer Joey Malugani notched his 14th goal of the season.

Century won the conference title last season and return four All-Conference players to the ice this winter, and all of them are juniors.

The teams traded a couple of early scoring chances right after the drop of the puck. The Panthers then took over control of the game and out shot OHS 21-4 in the first period, but Wiese's play kept the game scoreless.

Owatonna (8-5, 4-2 Big Nine) hosts Rochester Mayo Saturday, January 12 at 7:30 pm. It is Stick it to Cancer Night at Four Seasons Centre. Century is 12-2 overall and 6-0 in the conference.

The Owatonna girls' hockey squad scored a 5-3 win over the Panthers on Dudley Otto Rink Thursday. Sydney Hunst scored twice late in the third period after Century had rallied for a 3-0 deficit to tie the game late in the second. Hunst scored at 14:53 with assists from Ezra Oien and Mady Simon. Hunst added an empty-netter about 30 seconds later.

The Huskies had built their lead on first period goals by Olivia Herzog, Chloe Schmidt (from Kiley Friedrichs and Herzog) and Friedrichs on the power play. Asia Bursyka got the win in goal.

Owatonna plays Rochester Mayo Saturday night at 7:30 pm at Graham Arena with coverage on KRFO AM 1390 and the KRFO app.
