The weather was perfect for the largest all volunteer community celebration in Minnesota, Northfields Defeat of Jesse James Days. For quite a number of years I have "supervised" the Pork Stand on Saturday evening. The portable trailer Pork Stand is owned by the Dakota Rice Corn and Soybean Growers and Rice County Pork Producers. Special thanks to Kevin Estrem with the Pork Producers for ordering and stocking the Pork Stand.

It takes a lot of volunteers to staff the Pork Stand for a multi-day event like Defeat of Jesse James Days. A number of years ago Kevin came up with the idea of having different community groups or organizations staff the Pork Stand. During the year many organizations would ask the Rice County Pork Producers for a donation. Groups like 4-H, Boy Scouts, or Girl Scouts, church groups, maybe an FFA is raising money for a green house or new welders in the shop.

Kevin came to the Boards of the Dakota Rice Corn and Soybean Growers and Rice County Pork Producers for approval to have these groups bring a group of volunteers and work a shift at the Pork Stand. Then the Corn and Soybean Growers and Pork Producers would make a donation to their group. This has turned out to be very successful with many groups volunteering to staff a shift.

Some organizations like the Randolph FFA Alumni Association always staff the same shift at a certain event every year. I was working with the Randolph FFA Alumni Association Saturday evening. Because the Pork Stand is owned by the Corn and Soybean Growers and Pork Producers there is always one member or "supervisor" at each shift. Good thing I was working with the Randolph FFA Alumni Association. They did not need any supervising!
