Polaris Issues ATV Recall

Polaris has recalled 133,000 ATVs due to a fire risk. The company founded in Roseau, Minnesota, and with headquarters in Medina, published the recall yesterday.

The recall involves RZR 900 and RZR 1000 vehicles of model years 2013-16, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said in a statement Tuesday. The recalled vehicles, sold between July 2012 and April 2016 for $16,000-$26,000, can catch fire while driving, putting drivers and passengers at risk.

The RZR vehicles were involved in more than 160 fires, resulting in 19 injuries and the death of a 15-year-old girl in Utah, according to federal officials.

The CPSC says that owners should not worry about using their ATV, but should consider not using them until repairs are made.

As part of the recall, Polaris agreed to immediately suspend the sale of all of the affected RZR models until they are repaired. The company said it is sending recall letters to owners whose addresses are on file with the company, but it also urged owners to check the company’s website for the specific vehicle identification numbers involved in the recall. Repairs will be provided free of charge and service appointments should last about an hour, Polaris said.
