On Tuesday's AM Minnesota program the topic will be our competition in South America. The United States is the leading exporter of corn on the world market and the United States is the disputed leading soybean exporter. We face a lot of competition in the soybean world market from South America. South America is a huge continent and they are very efficient at producing soybeans, They are expanding their production of their second crop, which is corn. The United States had one advantage over South America, and that was our transportation and storage system. But that is changing rapidly.

Jim Call is a soybean farmer from Southwestern Minnesota and not long ago he was on a tour of South America. Call will be my guest on Tuesday's AM Minnesota program. In the past I have seen pictures of trucks lined up for miles waiting to unload beans at South American ports. I have read stories of ships waiting in South American ports for weeks waiting to be loaded with beans. I have read this is changing very quickly. Ports are being upgraded, railroads are being built and oceangoing ships are now able to move up the Amazon River. Call was there so it is going to be interesting to hear about what he saw!
