There is a plan for a 17-mile rapid transit line that is going to connect downtown Minneapolis to Richfield, Bloomington and Burnsville along the I-35W route, bringing all day high speed transit.

The communities involved are generally in favor of the project. But there is a big pothole in the road. The Counties Transit Improvement Board helps pay for the project. Dakota County supports the project but wants out of the CTIB.

According to a KSTP report, Dakota County Commissioner Tom Egan says the project cost have gone from unfair to really unfair in his county. He says they pay in more and get little in return. And, according to Egan, the CTIB is stating they may pull any money for Dakota County projects, and that would put the Orange Line project in a tough state.

Burnsville Mayor Elizabeth Kautz says it's a critical project to help grow the economy.

The CTIB is scheduled to meet again next week.
