Northwestern University of St. Paul scored with 1:20 to go to edge St. Olaf 17-16 in the 2014 season opener for both teams. The touchdown ended an 88 yard drive. The Oles had three straight scoring drives in the first half, but couldn't sustain drives in the second half. St. Olaf was 4-for-14 on third down conversions on the night, though they convert 3-of-4 on fourth down. The Oles punted four times after halftime and had the game run out with an incomplete pass into the end zone on the final play of the game.

The Oles scored on a 13 yard pass from Nate Penz (Rochester) to Joel Rienhardt (Eagan), a 2 yard run by J.J. Strnad (California) and a 23 yard field goal by Ezra Coughlin (Hibbing).

HALL OF FAME HONOREE FOR A SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR

Longtime St. Olaf womens cross country and track and field coach Chris Daymont will enter a national coaches hall later this year. She and her daughter were inducted into the Oles Athletic Hall of Fame last fall. In the following interview she comments about both awards. The interview starts with a look ahead at the new season.
