Northfield Police Identify Woman Found in the Snow

Northfield Police Chief Monte Nelson issued a news release identifying the woman whose body was found in the snow Sunday.

She is identified as Tiffany Louise Smith, 31, of Northfield.

Smith was reported to Northfield Police as a missing person on New Year's afternoon.  According to Nelson, a friend reported she was upset and had not returned home that morning.

Northfield Police and friends and family searched for her, and the family had also been working with United Legacy Search Management to create and disseminate flyers and organize additional searches.

Nelson told KDHL his office continues to investigate the death.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an autopsy and the Northfield police chief was not sure when those results would be available.

Smith's body was found near a residence in the 400 block of East Third Street. The residence was not where Smith lived and officers believe her body had been at the location for at least a day.

Nelson says there were no signs of a struggle or suspicious activity.
