Northfield Police Chief Monte Nelson updated information released by his department about a fatal shooting that happened Sunday morning.

The Northfield Police Department news release states, "Investigators from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension were on the scene of the shooting executing a search warrant and processing the scene for evidence."

The original information said at about 7:50AM, Northfield police were dispatched to the 1200 block of Jefferson Road on a report of shots fired inside a residence, with one person shot. Initial information indicated the shooting was related to an intruder in the home.

Northfield officers were assisted by the Rice County Sheriff's Department and Dakota County Sheriff's Department as well as the Minnesota State Patrol.

The original information said officers discovered at the scene an adult shooting victim and the reporting party, an adult female. The shooting victim was treated by officers and Northfield Hospital emergency medical professionals and was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the updated information, Nelson identified the shooting victim as 61-year-old Lilly Marie Kirckof and said she lived at the home where the shooting took place.

Another woman in her 70s who made the call to report the shooting was taken into custody for questioning and was cooperative with authorities and was released.

In the updated information, Nelson said, "there is no threat to the community related to this incident."
