There is a need for more medical service in the south metro area. Especially Lakeville, where there are a lot of people and no hospital.

Northfield Hospital and Clinics CEO Steve Underdahl made a presentation at a recent Northfield City Council work session, all the while indicating that this is still in the preliminary stages.

According to the Northfield News, the definition of an Ambulatory Surgery Center is a modern health care facility that provides same day surgical care and includes diagnostic and preventive procedures; they do not provide diagnostic or primary health care services. They treat patients who have already seen a health care provider and selected surgery as the appropriate treatment for their condition.

Lakeville seems to be the prime location choice at this point. There are more than 65,000 people there and no hospital.

NH&C has a family health clinic in Lakeville, but if you need surgery services you have to go elsewhere, currently. There are also clinics in Northfield, Farmington and Lonsdale. The Northfield hospital also recently added a $6.3 million Surgery Center.

The project is now to the point where land options are being explored and deciding whether to move forward with the project.
