Northfield Gets Second Seed in Class AAA State Baseball

The Big Nine Conference Champion Northfield Raiders are the No. 2 seed in the Class AAA State Baseball Tournament, which begins this Thursday in Minneapolis.

Games are being played at Dick Siebert Field on the University of Minnesota campus and Roy Koenig will have the call for us on the radio.

The 20-5 Raiders first opponent is 12-15 Henry Sibley.

They seed the top five teams and random draw the others to determine opponents for top three seeds.

Northfield was ranked third in the final coaches poll but second ranked St. Cloud Tech didn't make the field in the tournament.

Top rated Mahtomedi (19-5) drew New Ulm for their first round opponent and plays at 10AM.

The Northfield game first pitch is scheduled for 3PM.

Other quarterfinal round games have No. 4 seed Little Falls (19-5) playing No. 5 seed Rocori (21-3) at 12:30PM and No. 3 seed Benilde-St. Margaret's (17-7) going up against North Branch (12-12) at 5:30PM.

If the Raiders win their opener, the semifinal would be at 2:30PM Friday at Siebert Field and if they fall in the first game they would play in the consolation bracket at noon Friday on the University of Northwestern campus.
