The Austin Packers and Northfield Raiders will face each other for the second consecutive year in the championship game of the Section 1AAA boys basketball tournament.  Austin rolled by Kasson-Mantorville 79-47.  Northfield pulled away from Simley 65-45 Saturday night at the Rochester Mayo Civic Arena.

You can listen to the recorded game audio below!

Northfield was ahead 28-19 at the half thanks to 6’3 senior Alex Rasmussen’s 13 points.  Rasmussen would end up with 22 points and 6’2 senior Carter Hodapp 11.  The difference in the game was the Raiders 40-20 advantage in the Professional Pride Realty paint.

At times the game was sloppy.  Northfield finished the contest 10 of 20 from the free throw line and the Spartans were 8 of 13.  The Raiders were consistent defensively, holding Simley 23 points under their 68.5 season average.

Northfield and Simley each had 18 turnovers.

The Spartans were led by 6’0 junior Isaiah Robinson with 18 points and 6’2 senior Tyler Walker had 11.

Simley Ends their season 11-17 and Northfield is 20-8.

Austin and Northfield play Friday night at 7:00 p.m. for a trip to state.  Tickets will be sold at the schools because the game will be played in the smaller Mayo Civic Auditorium.  The more intimate facility seats 2,200.

The Arena is hosting the NCAA Division III Women’s Final Four Basketball Tournament.

If the Section 1AAA Title game is a sellout the Mayo Civic Center will open a conference room and provide a closed circuit feed on some large monitors for free.
