This is the reason there is no parking during a snow emergency. In addition to plowing the streets, some big equipment is used to remove the snow from downtown Faribault. The snow blower is on the front of that big loader tractor pictured. The semi drives beside the blower as it moves down the street. We used to chop corn silage that way. We called it "side winding," where a tractor and forage wagon would drive through the field beside the chopper. When the forage wagon was full, you stopped for a few seconds until the silage was out of the chopper. The full wagon moved out of the way, the empty one would move in and you were back to chopping in about 30 seconds. Plus, you did not have to get off of the tractor to hook up wagons. It does take a lot of coordination between the tractor and wagon drivers, just like between the snow blower and semi drivers in Faribault. This is why you should not park on city streets until the snow is removed. The drivers have enough to watch for without trying to get around parked cars!
