Over the past 2 seasons, you have seen many football players taking a knee during the National Anthem. It has been a topic of many discussions since, and now the NFL has released a policy stating that "players and team personnel present on the sideline 'shall stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem.'"

The policy allows players who do not wish to stand to stay in the locker room. But the policy also allows teams to create their own policies, including the ability to fine players.

"The league also now has the power to fine any franchise that has personnel that does not stand" for the Anthem.

The policy was not discussed with any players or their union, so I have a hunch that this will not go over well with them.

I agree with what USA Today sports columnist, Mike Jones wrote: "This is about one thing: Protecting the brand (which means protect the pocketbook)."

You can read the full policy statement here.
