The New Prague Trojans controlled the puck most of the night in a 4-1 win over the Faribault Falcons at the Faribault Ice Arena Thursday night.  The Trojans were impressive in their dominance with more shots than the Falcons in every period.  Total shots were 38 to 21 in favor of New Prague. 13 to 4, 17 to 10 and 8 to 7.  Faribault was just never allowed to get into any offensive rhythm.

The Trojans scored 11:11 into the game when senior Lindsey Bjerke picked up her 11th goal of the season assisted by Kianna Howard (3) and Ellie Skaja (7).  Their second goal would be knocked in by Emily Sabol (2) off a Bjerke (5) assist with 13 seconds to go in the period.

3:36 into the second period New Prague extended their lead to 3-0 on a goal by Abby Pirkl (6), assists to Lexi Kocina (4) and Bridget O'Brien (5). With 2:02 to go in the second period the Trojans upped their lead to 4-0 on a Kaitlyn Blair (6) power play goal assisted by Bjerke (6).

Faribault's only score came on an impressive shot by the state's leading scorer Olivia Williamson 5:48 into the third period.  The junior stole the puck at the Trojan blue line skated to the slot and lifted it over New Prague freshman goalie Mariah Marek's shoulder for her 22nd goal of the season.  It was unassisted.

The Falcons appeared flat in the first period and started the second period with a little more pep in their attack but New Prague effectively controlled the puck throughout the contest.  New Prague was 1 for 2 on the power play and Faribault was 0 for 2.

Falcon junior goalie Mikayla  Bohner stopped 34 shots, many of them point blank to keep the game closer than it could have been.  Marek had 20 saves for the Trojans who improved to 7-4-1.  Faribault dropped to 10-4 and for the second time this season lost in their first game after being ranked by Let's Play Hockey.

The Falcons were rated #20 in the Class A girls Wednesday.  Earlier this year after achieving a #20 ranking they dropped back to back games to Northfield in overtime and Mankato East.

Our Faribault State Farm Insurance agents Faribault players of the game were Williamson, Bohner and freshman defenseman Regan Bulger.
