I had a visit recently with Dan Ruiter, information officer for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, about assisting us in getting some guests for a locally produced outdoors show.

We've got an exciting list of topics I believe, and the first show Friday will feature Big Woods State Park, which is right in the middle of the KDHL listening area.

I will be visiting with Ellen Feikema about an event at the park this Saturday you might want to enjoy.

Their annual Candlelight Event will be from 5:30-8:30PM Saturday. The event is free and open to the public, however a vehicle permit is required to enter the park. A one-day permit is $5 and year-round permit $25.

When I was in the BIg Brothers Big Sisters Program of Rice County many years ago, we used to spend a lot of time in that beautiful park. I still go there, though less frequently.

I enjoy stopping out on weekends in the fall and seeing the progression of the colors changing.

The show will air each Friday during our Midday Report on KDHL about 12:45PM.

We have a variety of topics reaching until the end of May to see how it goes and whether you enjoy the program.

I would love to receive some feedback. You can email me at gordy.kosfeld@kdhlradio.com if you have ideas for topics, or would like to hear a different feature during our midday report.

February 10 we get the final deer numbers from the most recent season. February 24 we talk about winter kills.

In March we discuss maple syrup programs at the parks and have a show on preventing wildfires. In early April we'll talk about trout stocking and mid-April pollinators.

I'm looking forward to the show and hope you enjoy it also. Don't hesitate to let me know what topic you'd like us to tackle.
