Owatonna's senior-sophomore bond got a little stronger Thursday night as the boys' hockey team pulled out a 3-2 win at Northfield. With their 2-0 lead gone after the Raiders scored midway through the third period, OHS put together their third spectacular goal of the night for the win.

The game-deciding play began when sophomore Dom Valento came up with a loose puck high in the Owatonna zone. He pushed it forward to senior Andrew Munns who was behind all the Raiders and streaked in for his fifth goal of the season at 12:16 of the third period.

The win solidified Owatonna's hold on first place in the Big Nine Conference at 9-2 for 26 points. The Huskies are 13-6 overall and have won five of their last six games. The win gives OHS a season split with Northfield (13-6, 8-4).

Owatonna opened the scoring at the Northfield Ice Arena in the first period on a play with a pair of sophomores. Zach Kubicek stole the puck in the offensive zone and fed Casey Johnson who flew up the slot for his tenth goal of the season, coming at 10:53.

OHS doubled their lead midway through the second period on a senior-to-senior connection when Tommy Lehrer took the puck around the back of the Northfield net and fired a crisp pass to Evan Steinberg who was waiting at the back door for a 2-0 lead.

The Raiders got on the board about four minutes later to pull within 2-1 to set the stage for the exciting final frame. Practice had been sporadic this week due to numerous school closures due to the weather. Owatonna's players got together a couple of times to skate together at Four Seasons and the team had a skate Thursday morning.

Junior goalie Zach Wiese stopped 21 shots for the win. OHS out shot Northfield 29-23. The Huskies go to Mankato West Tuesday with coverage on Kat Kountry 105 FM.
