Earlier this month, the Minnesota State High School League tabled until their June meeting any decision concerning disciplinary action against schools involved in the state dance team competition in February.

This week Chaska and Eastview of Apple Valley districts announced what discipline they decided to impose on their coaches. That means all five schools have determined their disciplinary measures and an MSHSL representative indicated to KDHL after their most recent board of directors meeting that's what they were waiting to see before deciding what course of action they might take.

To summarize, Wayzata's head coach received a letter of reprimand and was suspended for the first two dance competitions next year. Eden Prarie's entire dance team coaching staff elected to step down for reasons not related to the protest. Lakeville South issued written reprimands to their head coach, all five assistant coaches and their activities director. Chaska and Eastview also reprimanded their head coaches and suspended them for two contests next year.

Faribault Superintendent Todd Sesker told KDHL the week after the state meet where the five teams protested Faribault's win in the high kick competition that it was the worst sportsmanship he had ever witnessed. Sesker said he felt horrible for the girls. Another school administrator of a district not involved in the state competition told KDHL if his district's dance team had been involved, his district would be looking for a new coach.

The members of the five teams and their coaches stood away from Faribault and joined hands in protest to the Emeralds' win because they believed the team copied their winning routine from a Utah school. Before the tournament, the MSHSL said the Emeralds did not violate any rules and told the coaches of the other competing teams they were cleared of any wrongdoing and would be participating in the state meet.
