Only 3 Mall of America Stores to be Open on Thanksgiving

One of the things that I don't like about Black Friday is the way that it's slowly creeped into Thanksgiving. This means that the employees, more than likely those with lower seniority, are forced to disrupt their holiday plans with their families in order to work. Now I'm all for getting a great deal on a 32-inch TV, I got two one year for less than $100 each, but while I was getting that fantastic buy I also realized it was at the expense of the employees that were working. And it's a deal I could've easily gotten the next day if this store had decided to wait until Friday to start their Black Friday sales.

That's why I was glad to see that, except for three of their stores, the Mall of America stores weren't going to be open on Thanksgiving this year. The only three that will be open have exterior entrances and include Sears, Macy's and the Crayola Experience. The mall itself will be open briefly from 7AM to noon only to the charity event The Walk to End Hunger. After that wraps up the doors won't open again until 5AM Friday morning.

Hopefully they will set an example for the other businesses, but I doubt it will start a new trend where big box stores decide to let their employees have at least a couple of days each year that they can share with their families.
