Morristown Fire Chief Troy Dahle told KDHL during today's open house at the new Morristown Fire Station the event," Could not have been more successful."

Firefighters gave a couple of demonstrations of the Jaws of Life opening of a car and educated many about what to do when a kitchen fire breaks out. In addition, the North Air Care helicopter landed for people to see what they have to help save lives.

Tours of the new fire facility were given and people were served hot dogs, chips and beans along with bars, cookies, lemonade and coffee.

Dahle told me the total cost for the facility was about $1.7 million and about a third of the cost was paid for through local community gambling proceeds. The new Morristown Fire Station is just under 12,000 square feet, or about triple the size of the old fire facility. Dahle estimated more than 500 people toured the facility during the four-hour event.

Dahle added other community functions could also take place in the new fire facility and said while some in the community were a bit apprehensive about the project the majority of people touring were impressed.

The Morristown fire chief says other departments contemplating construction of new facilities have either toured the Morristown facility or called and inquired about their process.

Dahle told KDHL it took about two years to plan what they needed in a new station they believe will serve the community for decades.

I took several photos and share some of them here.
