A record 3,649 FFA members are at the State FFA Convention being hosted by the University of Minnesota-St. Paul campus. Yes, blue jackets, the official dress of the FFA, are here in mass! This is a picture of one of the business sessions this morning. The meeting is being led by Minnesota FFA State officers. One of the items of business was approving the Minnesota State FFA degrees. Only about 2 percent of FFA members in Minnesota earn the state degree.

Another big part of the state convention is what I call judging contests. Officially they are called Career Development Events. There are 24 CDEs including general livestock, floriculture, soils, farm management, ag mechanics, small animal, horse judging, dairy products, dairy cattle and more. Teams have to win or place well at the regional contest to earn the right to judge at the state convention. Winners at the state convention earn the right to compete at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis this fall.
