I do remember sitting courtside with Gordy Hinck and Mike Morrissey during the State Tournament a quarter century ago.  The Class A State Champ was coached by a very young Tom Vix and the Class 2A Champion Owatonna Indians were led by Len Olson.  For both teams it was their first EVER state basketball crown and wouldn't be their last.  The Indian championship was a joy to watch at the St. Paul Civic Center. A 45-43 overtime win over Robbinsdale Armstrong.  It was the first state tournament appearance for Owatonna since 1924.  Matt Holland was a member of that team and would go on to have a great collegiate career at Gustavus.  Former Gopher Chad Kolander was a member of the team and Mike Broich would go to the Ivy League with his talents.  The squad also featured a young Mark Randall. Owatonna lost just one game that year and finished 24-1.  Rushford ended their year 26-2 and defeated a highly touted Russell-Tyler-Ruthton team 64-52.  Dana Grimsrud and Aaron Hungerholt led the Trojans.  Owatonna would win again in 1990 and the Lake City Tigers would keep the Class A title in Region One with an incredible thriller against Mankato Loyola. Memories are truly one of God's greatest gifts!
