Corn firmed up Friday going into the weekend, posting gains of 2-3 cents a bushel. For the week, December corn gained about 12 cents. There are a few early harvest reports circulating with mixed results. That reinforces thoughts among traders that the USDA will lower the yield estimate this year by a couple of bushels an acre from the August estimate of 176 bushels an acre. Remember the USDA September Supply Demand report will be released this morning at 11.

Beans continued their uptrend Friday too with gains of 3-5 cents a bushel. November beans had the highest close since August 24. Just in the month of September, November beans have rallied a little over 40 cents a bushel. The heavy rain in the Midwest has caused some disease concerns, but on the other hand traders view the rain as beneficial to help fill pods. Traders expect the USDA to raise the national average yield this morning to just over 50 bushels an acre.
