Sunday afternoon Faribault police officers and a Rice County deputy responded to a residence on Hulett Avenue. A neighbor had called to report they could see a male lying in the entryway through a window of the residence. Upon arrival, the officers forced entry and found a deceased male lying on the floor and upon a search of the house, found a deceased child and a firearm.

UPDATE 12/13: Investigators have confirmed the identity of the juvenile female as Lynnaya Stoddard-Espinoza, age 8. Lynnaya lived at the residence. Perrizo and his late wife, Jodi, petitioned for and received a temporary custody consent decree in 2012, which granted them sole legal and physical custody as de facto guardians of Lynnaya.

UPDATE 12/12: Police have identified the man as Ryan Perrizo, 33, who lived at the residence. Authorities are waiting for autopsy results before confirming the identity of the child, and they continue to investigate the relationship between Perrizo and the child.

Both Perrizo and Lynnaya suffered gunshot wounds, and a handgun was found next to Perrizo, according to a news release. Police believe the incident was a murder-suicide. Both victims were sent to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy.

“This is truly a tragic occurrence. Our officers are working very diligently to determine the exact circumstances of Sunday’s events,” Chief Andy Bohlen said in a statement.

The Faribault Fire department and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are assisting in the investigation.
