It was a cold day in Waterville on Monday afternoon. We started the game at 43 degrees with wind gusts to 29 mph. But that was not going to stop the Faribault Academy Cardinals from doing battle with the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Buccaneers. The Bucs had won the match 4-1 when the Cardinals hosted them at Bell Field in April, and the Cardinals wanted this one to help with their section race.

Pete Clark was on the mound for the Cardinals; Dallas McBroom started for the Buccaneers. Aaron Thompson came on in the sixth.

The score was tied at 3 in the sixth when Brandt Tousignant hit a two-run homer to put the Cards up 5-3. In the bottom of the seventh, Chris Pettis walked and came around to score and Mitch Wolter singled to left center, to bring in Ben Boran and made it 5-5. The Cards could not get anything to happen in their part of the eighth. In the bottom of the eighth, the Buccs had two outs, Brandon Kewatt was at bat and Matt Lemcke was on third. Coach Sam Stier from WEM sent Lemcke running. He was more than halfway home by the time Pete Clark released the pitch. Lemcke slid under Peyton Glenzinksi's tag for the win.

The Buccaneers are now 12-5 overall and Faribault Academies is 8-11. The Cardinals host Belle Plaine at Bell Field on Tuesday. Playoffs start on Friday. Seedings are being set Tuesday.
