In a press release Saturday afternoon, Lonsdale Police Chief Jason Schmitz stated that around 2:30PM, Lonsdale officers were checking on a suspicious vehicle at TCU Elementary in Lonsdale. When they entered the lot, the vehicle headed toward an exit. The officers spotted two people in the vehicle and when they ran the license plates it came back as a stolen vehicle from Le Sueur County.

They initiated a traffic stop and then the vehicle took off. The suspects took the vehicle down a driveway on the 12000 block of Independence Avenue when the vehicle became disabled. Then the two occupants exited the vehicle running on foot through the wooded area.

Schmitz said the female occupant turned herself in while the search continued for the driver of the vehicle. The adult female from Montgomery was taken into custody and later released. After an extensive search of the area, the driver was apprehended.

The man, from Hutchinson, was charged with auto theft and jailed after being taken to Le Sueur County. No other information is available about him.

Assisting at the scene were deputies from the Rice County Sheriff’s Department, Le Sueur County Sheriff’s Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Department of Natural Resources, Faribault Police Department and the Montgomery Police Department.
