Colleen Carlson Extension Educator in Carver and Scott county asked me to help get the word out about the Living On the Land Workshop. Living On the Land is an eight session course that will be held on Monday nights, April 2, 2018 through May 14, 2018. The sessions will be from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Firehouse Grill meeting room, 7875 Old Town Road, in Elko New market. The class fee is $225 for up to two people per farm.

Many families that grew up in and live in a city have a dream of raising their family on a small acreage in the country. They would like their children to be in 4-H and have a few livestock projects. However, they have no experience with a septic system, how they co-exist with wildlife, weeds, who do you call to service your well, farm machinery on the township roads, how long it might take to get a rural road plowed in the winter, what is a feedlot permit and when do you need one? The list goes on and on.

Those of us that grew up on a farm know about all these issues. Those that have lived in a city their whole life don't even know what they don't know about living in the country! Colleen said they have room for a few more in the class. So, if you would like more information contact Colleen Carlson 507-521-3640 or email: trax1042@umn.edu.
