The Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights volleyball team finished a dream regular season with a sweep over the Cannon Falls Bombers on Tuesday night 25-17, 25-23, 25-14.

The Knights are the lone Hiawatha Valley League champs after sharing the title the past two seasons, but they don't get to savor this too long before getting ready for the second season, playoffs.

The Knights rolled in the first set behind senior Mara Quam's superwoman kills. I call them superwoman kills because she flies to the ball. Unofficially, I had Quam with 12 kills on the night, six of them came in the first set and set the tone for the match.

It was senior night in the Castle and the four senior players and their senior manager were honored before the match. Our Sviggum Insurance Agency Knights of the match were the four senior players on the court: Quam, Kasey Dummer, Mia Peterson and Megan Flom, and their manager Natalie Hildebrandt.

Head coach Jen Nerison told KDHL after the win she was, "very proud of the girls because they worked so hard.

Right after the match, Kenyon-Wanamingo received their championship trophy.

Unofficially, I had Flom with seven kills, freshman Ally Peterson with five and junior Corynne Dahl with four.

Cannon Falls does not have a single senior on their team and jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second set but couldn't hang on.

The Knights finished the night with nine ace serves unofficially and were led by Dummer's four.

The Class 2A top-ranked Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights finished the regular season 28-1 and only lost six sets during the regular season. Their only match lost was in the championship of the Wabasha-Kellogg Tournament to the Caledonia Warriors.

In the Hiawatha Valley League, they lost only one set while sweeping the conference. The only team to win a set against them was Hayfield.

Seedings are sent in Wednesday and, unless the coaches have gone completely loony, the Knights will be the top seed in the South Subsection of Section 2 Class 2A.

Kenyon-Wanamingo would begin play Thursday, October 27, in the Castle and more than likely will see Waseca visit, then the Subsection semifinals would be 6PM Tuesday at Mankato East High School, and the Subsection title match at 7:45PM Thursday, November 3, at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter.

The Section final is 8PM Saturday, November 5, at Gustavus.
