The Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights used a very aggressive serve to defeat the Maple River Eagles on Thursday night in area high school playoff action.

Kenyon-Wanamingo had 18 ace serves in the 25-14, 25-15, 25-9 sweep.

Junior Mara Quam started the Knights off in the first set with five aces and scored an ace in practically every way imaginable -- a smoker serve, a hard short ball, a floater.

Junior Mia Peterson would end the night with six aces in the third set and would also show some versatility on her jump serves, and sophomore reserve Madison Alme had three aces in the final set. Juniors Kasey Dummer and Megan Flom also had an ace serve each.

Kenyon-Wanamingo jumped out to 10-1 leads in the first two sets and had some in the crowd yawning as they pulled away in the third set.

Power 96 unofficial Baker and Axelson CPA statistics had Megan Flom with 16 kills to lead the way. When she comes down on top of the ball nobody can register a dig.

The No. 1 seed in the South Subsection of Section 2 Class AA showed why they were the top gun while upping their record to 28-4.

The Knights will face Tri-City United in their next match Monday night at Mankato East High School. First serve is scheduled for 6PM and the match will be on Power96 Radio 95.9 FM.

TCU won their first set against Fairmont 25-17, dropped the second 25-18 before recording 25-8 and 25-21 wins. The Titans (from Montgomery, Lonsdale and Le Center) are 6-16 on the season.

On the other side of the South Subsection bracket, St. Peter had to go five sets to beat Blue Earth Area, and New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva dropped the first set against Waseca 25-15 before winning the next three 25-21, 25-17, 25-22.
