The Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights were workmanlike in their 25-18, 25-17 and 25-16 win over the Tri-City Titans at Mankato East High School on Monday night.

The Knights got off to a very sluggish start and then pulled away to win the first set. Six-foot junior Megan Flom was very efficient in her attack and tallied six first-set kills.

She finished the night with 11, according to my very unofficial Baker and Axelson CPA of Wanamingo statistics.

Kenyon-Wanamingo head coach Jen Nerison told Power 96 after the match that the team played well. She did say they need to continue to work on their passing.

For that reason I chose setters Mia Peterson and Siri Quam as Held Bus Service Knights of the night in addition to hitters Megan Flom and Ally Peterson.

The setters did save a number of balls from either going into or over the net.

Ally Peterson is an eighth grader and led the team in kills in the third set.

I had the Knights with six service errors on the night, but the Titans tallied 11 in the three sets.

New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva swept St. Peter in the other semifinal South Subsection Class AA match by scores of 25-16, 25-22 and 26-24.

The Panthers have the athletic Wagner twins, and 5-foot-9 senior Sophia Fischer can really smack the ball. Fischer crushes her serves and had an ace to put an exclamation point on the overtime third-set win for the Panthers.

Kenyon-Wanamingo and New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva will play for the South Subsection championship Thursday at 6PM at Minnesota State University Mankato.

The match will be broadcast on Power 96 Radio 95.9 FM. You can also tune in by downloading the free RadioPup app on your favorite mobile device.

In the North Subsection at New Prague High School, top seed and Class AA top-rated Belle Plaine had no trouble with a very good 20-plus win over the Glencoe-Silver Lake team 25-17, 25-13 and 25-20.

Jordan also downed Southwest Christian 25-20, 25-19 and 25-20.

That means Belle Plaine and Jordan will face each other in the North Subsection championship match Thursday night at 7:45PM or about a half-hour after the Kenyon-Wanmingo vs. NRHEG match.
