The Kenyon-Wanamingo Knights came into this week with hopes of a Hiawatha Valley League championship.

They thought they were in control of their own destiny.

Cannon Falls handed them their first conference loss Tuesday in the Bombers Hangar, but the Knights rebounded with a sweep of Zumbrota-Mazeppa in the home Castle on Thursday night.

Scores were 25-22, 25-18, 25-16.

Kenyon-Wanamingo was hoping for a win by Goodhue at home against Stewartville but the Tigers won the cat fight with the Wildcats 25-12, 25-18, 25-21.

That means Kenyon-Wanamingo and Stewartville tie for the conference crown.

In other Hiawatha Valley League volleyball Thursday night. Hayfield bested Pine Island in four sets. Kasson-Mantorville swept Triton. Byron downed Rochester Lourdes in three sets and Cannon Falls swept Lake City by scores of 25-19, 25-13, 25-17.

The Section 1 Class AA seeds should be revealed sometime Friday. Kenyon-Wanamingo already knows they are the top seed in the south subsection of Section 2 Class AA and host Maple River next Thursday to start their hopeful playoff run.

Stewartville will undoubtedly be the top seed in the west subsection of Section 1 Class AA, and Cannon Falls and Byron should see first-round home matches also.

We will broadcast the Kenyon-Wanamingo match Thursday in the Castle on Power 96 Radio 95.9 FM. Remember, you can also listen on your favorite mobile device just by downloading the free RadioPup app.
