Kenyon-Wanamingo plays United South Central in Friday night's high school homecoming football game in what I affectionately call The Moat.

Even people who do not call themselves football fans will probably be in attendance to see the Kenyon-Wanamingo marching band play at halftime joined by Kenyon's Police Chief Lee Sjolander on the electric guitar.

When the chief isn't protecting Kenyon, he enjoys playing in a band and he may be more excited about playing with the Kenyon-Wanamingo band than the band is about playing with him.

Band director Claire Larson tells us the band is pretty pumped to have the chief join them. In a email she described the event as "an unforgettable performance."

The homecoming parade begins at 12:45PM Friday. The parade will be led by the Kenyon and Wanamingo Veterans Color Guards.

The route goes from the high school to County 12 Boulevard then State Street past the Kenyon Sunset Home onto Gunderson Boulevard through downtown to Red Wing Avenue and then back to the school.

Each class has a float and the judges will be Mary Peters Smith, Kevin Anderson and Jon Held of Held Bus fame.

The powder puff football game takes place after the parade on the field. Kickoff for the football is 7PM.

At halftime individuals being inducted into the Kenyon-Wanamingo Athletic Hall of Fame will be introduced. The royalty will make a procession and the Kenyon-Wanamingo marching band will be joined by Sjolander on his electric guitar.

I sure would love someone to send a video of the performance to gordy.kosfeld@townsquaremedia.com so we can share it with everyone.

Thanks to Lisa Peterson for sending us this awesome picture of the Kenyon-Wanamingo Homecoming Court.

The queen is Mary Hjermstad and the king is Ben Erickson.
