The Kenyon American Legion baseball team made the long trip to Ely to participate in the Sir G's MIdsummer Classic over the weekend.  Playing in a light mist their first game Friday they defeated Taconite 5-3.  Kenyon tallied 6 hits and had 3 errors and Taconite collected 5 hits and had 7 errors.  Blake Jacobson pitched a complete game striking out 5 and walking 3.  Only one of the runs were earned.  Gavin Roosen had two hits and two RBI's and Jace Clawiter collected two RBI's on one hit.  In the next game Duluth Lakeview flexed their muscle with a 13-2 5 inning win.  Dulluth clubbed 11 hits and had two errors while Kenyon had 6 hits and 4 errors.  Carter Leininger had two hits to lead the Kenyon offense and Second Baseman Gavin Roosen made a diving catch of a foul ball between the first baseline and dugout.  Drew Sathrum took the loss on the hill going the distance with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.  Only 5 runs were earned and 5 of Duluth's hits were doubles.  In the only game Saturday Kenyon played Hermantown in Soudan and scored a 9-6 win.  Post 78 had 13 hits and no errors and Hermantown cranked 9 hits and had two errors.  Matthew Houglum made an impressive pitching debut for Kenyon going the distance for the win and struck out 3 while walking 5.  Head Coach Mark Strandemo says Houglum got roughed up a bit the first two innings but only allowed one more run the rest of the game.  Houglum will be a Sophmore in high school this fall.  Jace Clawiter went 4 for 4, Drew Sathrum had a couple hits, Blake Jacobson collected two hits and Jared Clawiter had a pair of hits in the win.  Kenyon was scheduled to play Sunday in Ely against Virgnia but no word on that game.  They wrap up their regular season Monday night with a doubleheader at home against Waseca.  First game first pitch is 5:30pm and of course you can indulge in some Morrie Burgers.  YUM!!
