For the second straight game, the Kenyon-Wanamingo girls basketball team came from behind to advance to the Section 1AA title game next Friday.

The Knights defeated Winona Cotter 50-40 thanks in large part to owning the boards.

Mara Quam had just three field goals in the game but cashed in 12 of 13 free throws to score 20 points and fellow senior Savanna Bleess finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Junior Tess Hokanson had six points and 11 rebounds. One of her more tenacious buckets came midway through the second half when Kenyon-Wanamingo went on an 8-0 run to take a 39-31 lead.

After a bucket by the Ramblers, the Knights punched the lead up to 10, only to see Winona Cotter slice that in half.

In the final couple of minutes, Winona Cotter had to foul and Kenyon-Wanamingo got the ball into the hands of their best free throw shooter, Quam. The Knights finished the game 14 of 19 from the free throw line and the Ramblers were 6 of 14.

The two teams played in the HVL vs. TRC Shwdown on the same floor in December and Kenyon-Wanamingo won 89-66.

Quam had a school record 41 points in that game and Cotter senior guard Gabby Bowlin 32 points. Bowlin was held to 7 points and fouled out of today's game.

The Knights will play either Hayfield or Rochester Lourdes. Playing soon on the same Mayo Civic Auditorium floor.
