Like virtually all years 2018 had some expected events and some unexpected.  Courtesy of H&R Block offices in Faribault, Lakeville and Owatonna where they have upfront transparent pricing, the way tax preparation should be and Keck's Kwik Lube of Owatonna we have a special hour long program counting down the top 5 sports stories and top news story in the KDHL listening area.

I won't tell you what order they are in but the top five sports stories include:

  • The Faribault Falcons state softball championship, Owatonna Huskies and Lakeville North Panthers state football titles.
  • The dismissal of Franz Boelter as Faribault Bethlehem Academy Head Volleyball Coach.
  • The team state wrestling championship for Zumbrota-Mazeppa and Kasson-Mantorville.  Both repeats.  Northfield girls basketball playing for a state championship in March and finishing second at state.
  • The Medford Tigers Cinderella run at the state volleyball tournament.
  • Faribault Bethlehem Academy junior golfer Khrystjan Petersen placing second at state.  Grace Amacher becomes all-time leading Faribault Falcon girls basketball scorer and sets career digs mark in volleyball.  Megan Gehrke and Bre Bresnahan both are part of multiple state championships in swimming, girls track and softball.

Which would be your number one sports story in the area?

On the news side the principal owner of F-Town Brewing informed the city they were leaving town to start a similar venture in St. Paul.  There were a couple murders.  A handful of fires happened in 2018 including the destruction of a turkey barn.  There were bomb threats at Faribault High School and a downtown law office.  The law office threat turned out to be part of a nationwide scam.  Multiple tornadoes rocked the Faribault area on September 20th.

Tune in and see if you agree with our choice for the top news story of 2018 in the KDHL listening area.
