It's happened a number of times over the years.

The Kasson-Mantorville Komets and Stewartville Tigers will square off for the West Subsection championship of Section 1 Class AA Thursday night in Rochester.

Byron put a scare in the defending state champion Tigers. It was a five-set thriller.

The scheduled 2:30PM match between Cannon Falls and Kasson-Mantorville didn't get started until after 4PM.

It was an exciting, competitive match, but a tearful Cannon Falls Head Coach Melissa Huseth told Power 96 Radio after the match her team just can't seem to finish against the Komets.

The first point of the match was a marathon and there were some very long volleys. In the end, Kasson-Mantorville won in four sets.

Cannon Falls jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first set but the Komets dominated in a 25-12 victory.

The Bombers won the second set 25-22 thanks to some excellent serving.

Sets four and five were there for Cannon Falls. Kasson-Mantorville had five service errors in the fourth set and still prevailed 25-22, and they eked out the fourth set 25-23 thanks to a very balanced attack.

The Komets had six players tally kills in the fourth set.

In the East Subsection, No. 4 seed Red Wing swept top seed Chatfield and No. 2 seed Plainview-Elgin-Millville bested No. 3 seed Saint Charles in a five-set match.

Stewartville and Kasson-Mantorville will square off Thursday night at 6PM and Red Wing and Plainview-Elgin-Millville will follow.
