The July Faribault Main Street Car Cruise night took place last Friday, July 15, and a great turnout! I had fun broadcasting live from the event and seeing the variety of vehicles and meeting a few listeners. Mike was there spinning the tunes, and the weather was picture perfect.

The Gopher Motorsports UMN Formula SAE race car and team was there answering questions. Gopher Motorsports is a student Formula SAE group at the University of Minnesota that designs and builds an open-cockpit race car annually, and competes against teams from around the world each year. Last year, the team took 18th out of 120 teams at the Michigan International Speedway.

Additionally, the Fleck's truck was there. The Fleck's truck is a 1946 Chevrolet that is now part of the Rice County Historical Society's collection. The truck began its life delivering beer and was recently pulled out of a tree stand and donated to the Rice County Historical Society. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with restoration.

The Faribault Main Street organization unveiled the ridiculously huge trophy that will be awarded to a car club August 19. Local car enthusiasts and Main Street supporters crafted a unique trophy from auto parts that is a one-of-a-kind piece. Car clubs that are interested in taking home the trophy, bragging rights for a year, and 10 t-shirts, must register by calling the Faribault Chamber of Commerce, pick out the 10 best cars to show, and provide a judge. Learn more here.

The remaining dates for this year’s car cruise dates are August 19 and August 26. Whether you are into muscle cars, custom restorations, old trucks, motorcycles, Model A’s, fun details, hood ornaments, tuners or special interest, there is something for everyone. Power 96’s Mike Eiler can be found playing music on Central Avenue as people stroll and take in the amazing cars parked in downtown Faribault.

It’s always a fun evening, and the cars that people bring are rare, interesting showpieces. Some vehicles make repeat appearances throughout the summer, but there are also new cars and trucks to check out.
